The following trainings comprise the core training all WCI Regular staff attend in order to meet their job expectations.  In addition to these trainings, WCI supports their staff to access outside training opportunities in order to round out their knowledge to better support the Individuals they are responsible for.  This may include trainings sponsored by Department of Mental Retardation, the Mass Council for Human Service Providers, as well as workshops and conferences sponsored by other agencies or industry leaders.  Please contact David Weene to register for any of the trainings or queries you may have at trainings@wearewci.org.

  First Aid

A state regulation requires all direct care staff to certify in Basic First Aid.  First Aid practices as taught per the curriculum developed by the American Red Cross in order that staff may provide basic first aid if the need arises.  This is a 5 hour training and is mandatory for all staff.

  CPR

A state regulation requires all direct care staff to certify in CPR.  Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation practices as taught per the curriculum developed by the National Safety Council in order that stay may provide CPR if the need arises.  This is a 3 hour training and is mandatory for all staff.

  Medication Administration

A state regulation requires all direct care staff to certify in Medication Administration Procedures (MAP).  MAP policies and practices as taught per the curriculum developed by the American Red Cross in conjunction with the Department of Mental Retardation in order that staff are able to safely administer medication to individuals in their care.  This is a 15 hour training.

  Employee Orientation 1

An introduction to WCI's basic operation policies and procedures, including information about expectations, performance evaluations, problem solving, calling in sick, referral bonuses, etc.  This is a 2 hour training and is mandatory for all staff.

  Employee Orientation 2

An introduction to standards of interactions with Individuals served, focusing on mandated abuse reporting, DPPC practices, Emergency Procedures and the Chain of Command.  This is an 1 hour training and is mandatory for all staff.

  Documentation

An introduction to WCI's documentation requirements and the forms necessitated by WCI and/or DMR.  The purpose, format and content is reviewed.  This is an 3 hour training and is mandatory for all staff.

  Human Rights

An introduction to WCI's identified Human Rights to be taught to Individuals and supported through staff role-modeling and education.  The purpose of DPPC and the WCI's Human Rights Committee are also reviewed.  This is an 2 hour training and is mandatory for all staff.

  HepB/HIV

An introduction to the prevention of and protection from blood-borne pathogens, including Universal Precautions and Hepatitis B vaccination information.  This is an 3 hour training and is mandatory for all staff.

  Mission and Values

An introduction to WCI's Mission, Philosophy, and Values, to include an overview of the industry's past practices, WCI's standards of service and future goals.  This is an 2 hour training and is mandatory for all staff.

  Applied Behavior Analysis - ABA

An orientation to WCI's behavior management practices, including behavior modification, environmental management, and behavior plan development so that staff learn to predict and shape behavior in more meaningful direction.  This is a 4 hour training and is mandatory for all staff.

  Implementation Strategies

An introduction to the DMR ISP system to prepare staff to understand how to interpret an implementation strategy in order to support the individual to attain their goal as outlined in the implementation strategy.  This is a 2 hour training and is mandatory for all staff.

  ISP

A detailed orientation to the DMR ISP system and WCI's assessment procedures to prepare supervisors to develop and implement a quality Individual Support Plan for the individuals at their site.  This is a 10 hour training and is mandatory for all supervisors.

  Advanced Documentation

A detailed, hands-on orientation to WCI's record keeping system for supervisor's to understand where to file and keep pertinent information and historical information.  This is a 5 hour training and is mandatory for all supervisors.

  Advanced Mission and Values

A detailed, orientation and discussion how supervisors can incorporate WCI's Mission and Values into the everyday work life of their supervisees and life experience of the individuals they support.  This is a 2 hour training and is mandatory for all supervisors.

  Advanced Human Rights

A detailed orientation and discussion in ways supervisors can facilitate the staff to support and educate individuals to understand and advocate their human rights.  This is a 2 hour training and is mandatory for all supervisors.
