           Overseas Recruitment

One of our most successful efforts at attracting applicants has been through overseas recruitment.  In 1999 we began a program of recruiting Practical Trainees from United Kingdom through the American Youth Work Center (AYWC) in Washington D.C.  We also have recruited trainees from Canada, Denmark, Ireland and Jamaica as well.

The AYWC Practical Training Program enables foreign social service providers to enter the U.S. legally for 18 months to receive practical, hands-on-training in an American social service agency and earn the prevailing wage plus the benefits.

What you can Expect

All American training site agencies in the AYWC Practical Training Program have signed a contract stipulating that they will:

  • Provide orientation, training and supervision of the practical trainee as required by the U.S. Department of State and regulations governing exchange visitor programs.
  • Begin health insurance coverage for the practical trainee within one month of placement under the same terms offered to employees.
  • Help the practical trainee find housing.

If you are interested in exploring such an opportunity, please contact American Youth Work Center at www.aywc.org and identify WCI as the agency you are interested in working for.
