            Individual Supports

Twenty people live in their own apartments with minimal staff support, between 5 and 40 hours per week (e.g., to read and interpret their mail, budget and manage their money, pay their bills, problem solve, make social plans and meet other individualized needs) to assist people to successfully live mostly on their own in the community.

The Individual Supports Division hosts the Waltham Committee Advocates Self-Advocacy group monthly meetings which include a self-run Board of Directors to teach people about their rights, the political process, how to run a group and to have fun.  This year the group participated in running a booth to sell water on Mayor's Day on the Waltham Common.  In addition, they organized their own Tag Sale in order to raise funds to support the group.

Our goal has been to provide the services that each Individual or family member may want for their son, daughter or relative.  As a result we are supporting one Individual in his parent's home.

In 1994, 1996 and 2001 we created a "Home of One's Own" Program with Baybank, now Bank of America.  We have assisted four men and women to purchase their own condominiums.  This was a pioneering effort when WCI created this program.  In 2003 WCI began serving young adults between the ages of 18-22 years to transition them to adult life.
